Australian Cattle Council : Yearbook 2015
YEARBOOK2015 CATTLE COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA 64 Picture You in Agriculture’s vision is to design and deliver community events that are a true celebration of the diversity, sustainability, creativity and progress of the people, places and produce behind the industries that feed, clothe and house us and will power us in the future. Recognising that fresh ideas and innovative solutions are needed to both enhance the image of farmers and farming and encourage young people to consider agriculture related careers Picture You in Agriculture has developed the Art4Agriculture suite of programs that identify, mentor, train and deploy Young Farming Champions (YFC) to engage with urban and rural students using art and multimedia through The Archibull Prize. The Archibull Prize partners with the Young Farming Champions program The Young Farming Champions (YFC) program pairs students participating in The Archibull Prize with a young farmer or a young person working in the sector. The YFC promote positive images and perceptions of farming, providing a pathway to get these messages across to wider audiences. Taking part in the YFC program involves undertaking a series of Sydney based workshops where, under the mentorship of some of Australia’s finest communication, marketing and professional development experts the YFC learn the skills and knowledge to lead agriculture’s next generation. Through these workshops and the program’s lifetime mentorship opportunities, YFC are equipped with unique insights into all aspects of the agricultural supply chain as well as consumer attitudes and trends. In the last five years the programs and their key messages have reached over 100,000 students in schools, almost one million people through exhibitions and close to 1.6 million people through print, TV and radio coverage. The Art4Agriculture model takes a collaborative approach to creating a buzz around agriculture, leadership training, community engagement and inspiring the next generation’s best and brightest to seek careers in agriculture.
