The principles for effective complementary measures would comprise: • One system across all of agriculture with a minimal administrative burden; • A system that minimises the impact on international competitiveness by ensuring that the costs (including measurement costs, abatement costs and cost to create offsets) are counteracted by productivity improvements created by reducing emissions; • A system that provides producers with the ability to not only meet obligations but to demonstrate those achievements to the Australian people and our export customers; and • Create opportunities for investment in initiatives that achieve the ultimate goal for emission reductions. Cattle Council believes it is imperative that the Australian beef industry is committed to ensuring an all-of-agriculture approach to tackling the issues relating to climate change. Furthermore, we believe that the beef industry is not a part of the problem, it is a part of the solution. • Concrete Combo Trough-Apron One piece units • Concrete Troughs & Aprons • Onsite & Precast Feedlot Products • Polycrete Cups & Saucers We now offer a full range of poly tanks – 1000L to 24,000 ON SITE DELIVERY CHINCHILLA TANK CENTRE Phone (07) 4662 7427 Graham Seng 0427 627 427 CA TTLE COUNCIL OF AUSTRALIA YEARBOOK 2009 “The blunt truth about the politics of climate change is that no country will want to sacrifice its economy in order to meet this challenge, but all economies know that the only sensible long term way of developing is to do it on a sustainable basis.” Tony Blair (Former British PM) Jed Matz Policy Director Cattle Council of Australia 27 1117_CCA Yearbook 2009.indd 27 5/5/09 8:00:04 PM
