Branch Presidents' Reports Environment Special Interest Group Victorian Branch (continued) A number of new members have joined recently and are interested in forming the direction of the group and the issues for EHOs. Some key achievements of the SIG are as follows: - n Ongoing participation in the EPA reference group, Onsite Domestic Wastewater Management Policy and Regulation Review. This group includes Water Authorities, Plumber’s Registration Board, Local Government Domestic Wastewater SIG, AWA, DHS and MAV. n Met with DHS - Food Safety and provided input to the Non Potable Water Guide and Water Transport Guidelines review. n In conjunction with the Australian Water Association, organization of a Wastewater Conference to be held 12-15 October 2008 in Benalla. The group has an interest in issues which use the wider definition of environment management to encompass such things as n Air - noise, fumes, dust, smoke, odour. n Soil - contaminated sites, salinity, land stability. n Water - wastewater, drinking water, stormwater, recreation. n Waste - litter, municipal waste, toxic waste. Some of the key areas the SIG will be pursuing over the next 2 years will include: n Completing a greywater policy n Preparing draft policy statements on a number of relevant issues will also be considered. n Identification of Health Risks due to exposure of environmental factors (eg, greywater/rainwater tanks etc), n Reviewing any legislative changes that affect the group’s area of interest and the role of EHOs. Thank you to all the members of the SIG for the time that they have put in over the past year. I wish to acknowledge their contribution in making our achievements possible to hopefully enhance our profession, both personally and as a whole.
